Dear Friends, Brothers and Sisters of the AMO,
Congratulations to our opponents on a hard fought election victory. We do so with our best hope for all the AMO membership, retirees, and their families.
The AMC has made important gains in this election. We have won yet another post on the Executive Board with AMC candidates. In only two years, we have replaced five positions with men directly from the ships. This is an unprecedented and significant change that empowers the AMO membership more than ever before.
Chris Bartlett succeeded in his election bid and is the National Executive Vice President. Chris deserves our hearty congratulations and continued support.
Chris, along with Tim Harkins, John Rousselle, Hank Mallon and I have worked very hard and our families have greatly sacrificed. We have strong support, evident in the changes and in the close elections.
Thank you. Together with hundreds of AMO members and their supporting votes, we have brought to the surface, many issues of great importance. The AMC is the first successful political effort in the AMO to make changes for the better. Our success breaks new ground in our union’s democratic and professional strength. This is the foundation of change and improvement in the AMO as a union. Unions have members that stand for rights, opportunity, and betterment. We still represent these goals and in all this, we will continue our effort.
The Reverend Martin Luther King once said, “Our lives begin to end when we become silent about things that matter.” What matters has to be recognized, understood, and stood for. The AMC has won five positions on the AMO Executive Board and given new life to the AMO. We have a lot to be proud of.
With the changes, each AMO member has a duty to stay vigilant and involved. We promise to give it all we can and stay the course.
Thank you again and best fraternal regards,
Jack Hearn, and Chris Bartlett, Tim Harkins,
John Rousselle, Hank Mallon
