Thank You
Dear Brothers and Sisters of the AMO,This is the final AMC message in the 2008 campaign. I simply want to say, “Thank you”. Thank you for your support and your kind words for me and for our AMC team. Our campaign for a better union and for fair and democratic representation is nearly over. It is a good time to take stock of what we have gained and the people responsible for bringing us to this point.
AMO members and retirees are now fighting to preserve and improve their union rights. You have published statements of support and signed petitions. You have voted in elections and at union meetings to help this cause. It has taken courage to speak up and to act against abusive union leaders. The AMO is a different union now and one of promise because of your willingness to stand up for your rights.
Bartlett, Harkins, Rousselle, Mallon, and Eric Norton all held their ground and provided examples of courageous leadership. They sacrificed financially and spiritually by enduring two elections and legal battles on the behalf of every AMO member. They put their careers and reputations at risk. Not once but twice they were asked to run in a punishing campaign and each man said; “I’m in.” They fought for you and your union rights and they deserve the highest praise and our sincere thanks.
We found a tremendous community of support. And remember, the U.S. Department of Labor intervened, not on our behalf, but yours.
Members stood their ground. Candidates took heat. Spouses and families understood and sacrificed. Together, we have accomplished much. What brought us together is a willingness to do the right thing. To all, I am grateful. The votes are soon to be counted and I believe we will prevail.
I am proud that so many AMO members have stood together to do what is right. It is an honor to write to you now and to thank you.
Fraternally,
Captain Jack Hearn
